Gaziosmanpasa University, Agriculture Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Yasar Akca stated that the production of walnut in Turkey is limited in the amounts of seventy thousand tones in contrast to the statistics, in his explanation with AA correspondent in Bursa where he came so as to attend a programme.
As the production is less, Akca who draws the attention to the less consumption of the walnut with the effect of its price, emphasized that such kind of an important food could not be consumed by the great majority of the children in this country.
Akca talked in the following way, by highlighting walnut has got a very important place on human nutrition and health:
“ 700 pounds calory energy can be gained from 100gram walnut which is one of the most important energy sources especially in winter. It is very rich in minerals, proteins, vitamins and fat. Serious researches are still made on walnut. The greatest feature of the walnut is developing the mind of these features such as decreasing the cholesterol, regulating the tension, having very helpful effects on heart-vessel health so much. Brain and walnut resemble each other both as shape and content. The only organ which uses the silver in human body is Brain. Thus, the walnut which contains silver plays a great role in the mind development of children.

THE WALNUTS IN TURKEY ARE COMPLETELY ORGANIC
Akca who emphasizes that the silver in walnut increases the acceleration of exchange of information between right and left sides of the brain, also said the “ people who consume the walnut so much have got high mental development.” Especially the walnuts in Turkey are organic, because it is not available of fertilizing and application of insecticides. In this view, he also said that the walnuts produced in Turkey haven’t got even a little harmful side to human health.
Akca stated that the walnut is very important food which must be available in the nutrition list of children and went on his explanations as follow:
“For clever and healthy generation, the consumption of walnut, almond and hazelnut of the children must be provided in addition to milk. This must be formulated as a national policy by Education and Health Ministries. When an elementary school student sits on the table, he must eat 3 walnuts certainly. This consumption should also be supported with the foods such as almond and hazelnut. “
WALNUT IS AVAILABLE EVEN IN THEIR ICE CREAMS
Akca who advises the adults to eat 5 walnuts every day and said that, “the best heart doctors recommend 5 walnuts should enter into the kitchen every day. We need to increase the production and the consumption of walnut. We give more importance to walnut for more healthy generation. Developed countries consume walnut at breakfast. They use walnut even in their ice creams.”
