‘Ahden fidelity’ term is used as ‘ Pacta sund servanda’ in Latin language, namely it means ‘agreement must be kept’.
Ahden fidelity means that we fulfill our responsibility towards God and we keep our promises which we give in usual life. It eliminates the conflicts which are encountered in family life and trade relations. Ramazan Kazan, who is the faculty member at the Faculty of Theology in the University of Suleyman Demirel and make academic studies referring to the Ahden Fidelity which is one of the most important principles of Islam religion, said “ The biggest capital of believers is their reputation. The source of this reputation is Ahden fidelity. The believer is the one who does not give promises which he can not keep and which does not aggrieve the people in any case.”
Ahden fidelity, which provides the social life to be sustained healthy, is listed as one of the characteristics of believers in Qur’ an and hadiths. Kazan, who draws the attention that it is available legal and moral directions relevant to the abiding the promises in Islam, said that Muslims are obliged to abide the promises they give.
Kazan pointed out ‘ahden fidelity’ can be regarded as the reason for sedition and went on saying, “ For example, someone who works in manufacturing industry, must finish to manufacture and deliver the instruments of tools and equipments on the identical day and hour with the one he promised. Otherwise, he gets responsible both morally, legally and religiously. As for the one who does not fulfill his responsibilities, he is responsible against both God and the people.”
Kazan emphasized that of not keeping the promise which is given, is accepted as the sign of the doomsday by our prophet (sas). Kazan reminded that our prophet was known with his reliability by the infidel people and our prophet said “ If adultery and prostitution generalize in the society, the people do not be careful about the measurement and scales, it is not given alms, the promises are not abided which are given to God and to his prophet, an enemy will pester those people. We understand the importance of the Ahden fidelity from this word of our prophet. Dr Ramazan Kazan also stated that ahden fidelity is one of the qualities of our prophet (sas) and God praises him profusely with these qualities.
Kazan, who states that ahden fidelity is a virtue, says “that the source of many social problems is inconfidence today.” Kazan also told “ One of the reasons of the unrests which happen today, is that the promises are not abided althought they are given. When it happens in this way, the cases of bankruptcy, murder and suicides increase.” He lists the required conditions in order that the promises or contracts could be valid as follow: If the contract is dealt with a limited period, it should be waited that period. The fact that it can be terminated when it is desired, must be taken place in the terms of the agreement. The promise which is given, should be suitable to Qur’an.
